Senior Glazing Estimator Job in Calgary

Ideally, this person is an energetic- forward thinking individual with experience working within the construction industry specifically related to building envelope estimating for glazing and cladding scopes.
Custom Metal Contracting (Glazing Group) Ltd is a leading trade contractor which designs, manufactures, and installs stick and unitized curtain wall systems, including storefront. CMC specializes in Architectural glazing and metal facades for commercial, institutional, tilt-up warehouse and high-rise projects. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Estimator will be responsible for the preparation of material and quantity take-offs from architectural drawings, as well as preparing product breakdowns for costing and all costs associated with tendered estimates.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working as part of a team and alongside the Operations and Sales Manager you will produce high value tenders covering all aspects of architectural glass & glazing while actively seeking new clients.
- Review scope of work, specifications, and addendums for prospective projects to provide lump sum tender prices
- Produce product take-offs by examining drawings from Architects, Engineers and general contractors to determine the proper product and quantities that would be required to correctly fulfill both the building code specifications and the customers budget requirements.
- All required material quote requests to populate estimates into Glazing tenders
- Review and make changes to estimates as per post-tender addendums
- Collaborate with all department peer groups, to ensure that regional best practises, high quality quotation documents and competitive pricing is provided consistently and in a professional manner
- Obtain and track subcontract bids and negotiate budgets
- Maintenance of job files, project digital database
- Attend project meeting’s, client meetings and senior management meetings when required
- Attending pretender site meetings to prepare an accurate estimate
- Track job progress and changes to alert operations management to delays, issues etc
- Process submittals and project approvals
- Maintenance of job files, project digital database
- Liaison with clients, build relationships with various stakeholders
- Apply Continuous Improvement principles in your work performance and drive
- Continuous Improvement application in company operations
- Track and update management on sales opportunities regularly
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred candidate has hands on working knowledge and experience in major projects utilizing unitized and stick built Curtain walls.
- Have experience with the local brand names Kawneer, Alumacor & Oldcastle shop fronts and systems
- Experience with Logikal or partner pac software
- Exceptional teamwork and communication skills with a strong attention to detail
- Hands on experience with flow charts, spreadsheets, technical documentation (blueprints/specs)
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience, preferably within larger construction projects
- Solid organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft office, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, and Estimating Software
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Strong/above average math skills
EDUCATION:
- Five (5) + years experience working as an estimator in commercial glazing, entrance system automation and specialty hardware
- College or post graduate degree preferably in civil Engineering, construction engineering technology or Architectural Technology, estimating certificate, education and related field or equipment work
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires the employee to work mainly in an office environment with occasional site visits. Employee must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, possess a valid driver’s permit and the ability to work odd/ extra hours to accommodate project deadlines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires high levels of mental acuity, keyboarding skills, ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time, occasional exposure to inclement weather may be required.
